Ophthalmic plus bottle

Simplify the application of eye drops

Applying eye drops can be challenging, especially for people with limited mobility in their arms and fingers. To use standard squeeze bottles, it is necessary to move the head, arm, elbow and wrist into an unnatural position away from the neutral zero position of the joints. This makes it even more difficult to apply enough force to squeeze the bottle, produce a drop and aim it precisely at the eye.

The Ophthalmic plus bottle improves the application of eye drops. Its unique base design makes it an excellent choice for users with limited upper body mobility. Unlike conventional plastic systems, the bottle is pressed at the base rather than on the side. This feature allows for a more natural range of motion and reduces the force required to apply the drops.

For more specific information about holding position and finger strength in the use of medicines have a look at “Arzneiformen richtig anwenden – Sachgerechte Anwendung und Aufbewahrung der Arzneimittel” by Wolfang Kircher.

Ophthalmic plus – the best choice for ophthalmic products

The 5 ml bottle is made of PP, a material with excellent barrier properties. It looks similar to comparable eye drop systems that are well known on the market.

The base is designed as a bellows. It is used by pressing on the bottom of the bottle. This means that the arm does not have to be raised as high and the wrist is not bent as much as when pressing on the side.

The force required to dispense the drops is reduced by approx. 40% compared to similar squeeze bottles.*

Variable closure systems

When developing the Ophthalmic plus system, we also had the manufacturers and fillers of eye drops in mind. Since the barrier properties and dimensions of the bottle are similar to standard eye drop bottles, the changeover on the filling lines should not pose a major challenge. In addition, the bottle can be combined with commercially available droppers and closures for this neck size. For example, with child-resistant closures or with opening aids.

From Ophthalmic plus to Simple Drop

The proven Ophthalmic Plus system has made a name for itself in the pharmaceutical sector thanks to its specially developed base design – a bellows that makes it easier to squeeze out drops ergonomically, reducing the amount of finger strength required by up to 40%, which is particularly beneficial for users with limited mobility or older users. We now want to transfer this innovative solution to other markets – under the new Simple Drop label.

Simple Drop – one drop, many possible uses

When the container is used outside the eye, PACKSYS refers to it as Simple Drop: the same sophisticated design (bellows at the bottom), versatile in use – oral, nasal, auricular or dermatological. Wherever single-dose liquids are required, Simple Drop ensures comfortable handling thanks to its reduced-force dosing.
